Dr. Montserrat Alom

Montserrat is the Director of the International Centre for Research and Decision Support (CIRAD) of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU), Paris, France.
At the same time, she is an associate researcher at CEPED-IRD, Université Paris Cité, France, as well as an associate researcher and guest lecturer at the Institute of European Studies and Human Rights at the Pontifical University of Salamanca, Spain.
She is also an external lecturer at the Doctoral School of Université Paris-Est Sup, France.
Expertise
Montserrat is a sociologist of science with expertise in international scientific collaborations involving the South, knowledge circulation, responsible research practices and research funding, particularly in support of research for development. She is also interested in university social responsibility, evaluation in higher education and the impact of technologies on knowledge production.
Professional experience
With more than twenty years’ experience in the Federation’s research unit, she is currently in charge of defining and implementing the Centre’s research and communication policy, conducting flagship projects and global studies, creating transnational study networks, organizing evaluation campaigns for higher education institutions and coordinating action-research projects in the Global South. As a member of the Federation’s Scientific Council for Research, it supervises the work of a dozen international research groups, while monitoring the latest trends in higher education and research, establishing partnerships with academic and social actors, and representing the Centre internationally. In close collaboration with the Federation’s Training Department, she also provides training on subjects related to higher education and scientific cooperation. Finally, she is a reviewer of scientific books and articles, is part of international networks and sits on expert committees and journal committees.
Higher education
Montserrat has a PhD in sociology from the University of Paris Descartes, a Master’s degree in sociology from EHESS, Paris, and a Master’s degree in international relations with a focus on the evaluation of public policies from the University of Lyon 3. She also holds a Post-graduate diploma (DESS) in project management, a University diploma (DU) in international cooperation and a Bachelor’s degree in history, at the end of which she completed a study period at University College London, London, and a professional internship at the Council of Europe, Strasbourg.
