IFCU has a new Partnership with UNISERVITATE
The International Federation of Catholic University has recently concluded a partnership with the UNISERVITATE Program, held by Porticus and coordinated by the Latin American Centre for Learning and Solidarity Service (CLAYSS).
This program aims to institutionalize Service-Learning within Catholic Higher Education Institutions (CHEIs). Service-Learning, which has been expanded in the last 50 years all over the world in the academic field, is a pedagogy based on the articulation of academic formation and social commitment. The institutionalization of such a tool within CHEIs may offer a new pedagogy to students, new opportunities in terms of social commitment and especially provide “an education of the head, the hands and the heart” according to Pope Francis’ wish.
UNISERVITATE also responds to the identity and spiritual requirements of CHEIs. By allowing social commitment, Service Learning gives students the opportunity to become actors of social change and contribute to the mission of the university, articulating research, teaching and social outreach.
Thus, UNISERVITATE aims at conducting research on the spiritual dimension of Service-Learning in CHEIs, creating a global network with regional hubs and finally developing a capacity-building program to institutionalize Service-Learning.
Catholic Higher Education Institutions are invited to participate in this initiative.
The first Symposium of the program will take place on October 29th and 30th 2020.
